Bombay Begums is an Indian Hindi drama, streaming on Netflix from March 8, 2021. Written and directed by Alankrita Shrivastava, the web show stars Dil Hai Ke Maanta Nahi fame Pooja Bhatt in the lead role. Furthermore, Endemol Shine India serves as the production house. Also, it is available in both Hindi and English languages.
The web series is a feminist show that revolves around the lives of five women. They’re staying and struggling in the city of dreams, Mumbai. With an aim to carve a niche, they embark on a journey filled with never-ending challenges. While Pooja plays the role of a boss business lady (as Rani), Amruta (as Lily) is a bar dancer longing for a life of respect. Shahana (as Fatima) plays a character aspiring to do big in a corporate world but her dreams dash to grounds with an unexpected pregnancy on her way. Plabita Borthakur (as Ayesha) and Aadhya Anand (as Shai & Rani’s daughter) have a different set of hindrances. All five of them connect after a road rage and a mysterious scandal.
It is a perfect pick to watch on the occasion of International Women Day. The major chunk of credits goes to the developer Alankrita Shrivastava. The show not only resonates with the audience but presents the true picture of working women in today’s society. It’s the story of many women hailing from different walks of life. Shrivastava is already known for films like Lipstick Under My Burkha. The web series is another feather in her already garnered cap. Besides it, the powerful cast lead by super talented Pooja Bhatt is truly endearing. From the opening till the closing, you feel strongly connected to the series. Without further ado, give it a watch, enjoy every scene and dialogue!
